Located in Peach County, Georgia is the City of Byron. The city is positioned in the central region of Georgia and is located about 90 miles south of Atlanta and 16 miles south of Macon. According to the United States Census Bureau, Byron had a population of approximately 5,133 in 2016.
Before Byron developed as a city it served as a flag stop on the Southwestern Railroad and was known as Number One and One-Half Station. In 1860, William Hays constructed a store. A post office was also established in 1860. Seven years later a second store was constructed by C. H. Richardson. In 1874, the community became incorporated by the Georgia Legislature. Byron is named in honor of Richardson’s favorite poet, Lord George Gordon Byron.
Byron markets itself as a great place to live, work, play, and visit. Attractions in the city are an abundance of shops and restaurants and historical places. Antique shops and an antique mall are located in Byron as well. Downtown Byron is home to a large number of attractions and businesses.
